Argiro Barbarigou, Global Ambassador of Authentic Greek Cuisine, celebrity chef and restaurateur, television personality, entrepreneur, humanitarian and award-winning author, began her gastronomical journey on her native island of Paros before studying French cuisine in London and pastry seminars in Lyon.
Born on this Cycladic Island nestled between Mykonos and Santorini in the Aegean Sea, she was inherently aware of the importance of homegrown ingredients, and began pioneering authentic Greek gastronomy in 1996 with the opening of Papadakis restaurant. Today, her second, wildly successful restaurant in Athens of the same name, is a favorite among global A-listers, all who swear by her signature Greek cuisine and her equally inherent Greek spirit. Argiro recently received the honor of Ambassador of SOS Children’s Villages in Greece for her tireless fundraising efforts on behalf of the charity and her incredible work with children. With nine bestselling cookbooks under her belt, Argiro remains the country’s number one cookbook author, with many receiving awards including three from the French Gourmand Awards. Her new book, My Greece, will be published in the U.S. and is due to hit bookstores this fall. As a media darling and established culinary influencer, she now brings her gastronomic prowess to the United States with the opening of alfa Pie house in Washington, D.C. in July 2015. “I am ready and honored to carry ‘the Olympic torch’ of Greek cuisine on behalf of my people and my beloved country, to share the spirit of Greece that inspires and transcends.”
